Are You Investing Your Time?

All humans may not have the same amount of money, talent, skills, network etc, but there is one thing we all have in common, including permanent members of the Forbes Billionaire list – we get credited with 24 hours each day. How we use those 24 hours determine the results we get in life.
Like money, time is also a seed. What you do with it determines the harvest you receive. You are either spending or investing your time. Months and years can come and go with nothing to show for it. But the time you invest wisely brings dividends over and over again, even long after you are gone.

One of our pet complaints is lack of time. We don’t have time to read, listen to an audio book or watch an educational video. We don’t have time to invest in our personal growth and development, but we have abundant time to read and spread rumours on social media, watch others live their dreams on TV or discuss about others under the guise of socializing. We spend so much time minding others’ business or on things that do not help us deliver on our most important goals while we leave what matters most to suffer.

Our desired goals and outcomes will not just happen. We have a role to play in its actualization. We need to be clear what we really want and how to go about it. We need to be intentional in our actions rather than follow our moods

There is nothing like an unrealistic goal (unless in instances you want to play God). What is unrealistic is the price you are willing to pay. If you desire a brand new Mercedes Benz S500 and you are only willing to pay N10Million, the amount you are willing to pay is unrealistic. The car is yours for the taking, if you are willing to meet the payment terms. If you walk into a Mercedes Benz dealership with N10Million, you will be directed to a Kia or Hyundai dealership where you may be able to pick some lower models for the amount you are willing to pay

It is the same with setting goals. If you set a big goal and then spend most of your time on social media sharing and arguing, then the price you are paying becomes a joke. You are not ready to achieve that goal. The issue is not with the goal. The issue is with you.

To achieve financial or any kind of success, you need to become an investor. You need to invest your time and money on things that move you towards your goals.

You don’t necessarily need to have money to become rich. Founders of Facebook, Google etc had no jobs when they started their business in the dorm room. Your idea can attract investors. You need time to conceptualize the idea and go through process to get to the point you can make a presentation to eager potential investors. You cannot achieve that through spending most of your free time on TV, social media, socializing or whatever it is you do that does not move you towards your goals and dreams.

Stop for a moment and take a second look at how you have used your time so far this year. Are you spending or investing your time? You are the only person that can answer that question.
