FRIENDLY HEALTH WORKER
1. WORLD MALARIA DAY

View this post on Instagram

April 25, 2019 is marked as the 'World Malaria Day.' The theme for this year's event is Zero Malaria Starts with Me. It is a grassroots campaign that, among other things, aims to empower communities to take ownership ofmalaria prevention and care. “Zero malaria starts with me” After more than a decade of steady advances in fighting malaria, progress has levelled off.  According to WHO’s latest World malaria report, no significant gains were made in reducing malaria cases in the period 2015 to 2017. The estimated number of malaria deaths in 2017, at 435 000, remained virtually unchanged over the previous year. Urgent action is needed to get the global response to malaria back on track – and ownership of the challenge lies in the hands of countries most affected by malaria. On World Malaria Day 2019, WHO joins the RBM Partnership to End Malaria, the African Union Commission and other partner organizations in promoting “Zero malaria starts with me,,” a grassroots campaign that aims to keep malaria high on the political agenda, mobilize additional resources, and empower communities to take ownership of malaria prevention and care. Send us a message with what you, as a person, will do to stop the scourge of malaria in Sub-saharan Africa in an email to thetentmakersonline@gmail.com and you'll stand a chance to win a token from Tentmakers Online Reloaded. #FriendlyHealthWorker

TESTIMONY THURSDAY 9

View this post on Instagram

It's time for another Testimony Thursday. I was pondering on what to share when the testimony practically fell on my laps. Someone I lost touch with a few years reached out to me yesterday. She told me a touching tale of how she had to deal with terrible bosses to the point that she had to be treated for depression. She eventually left the job without anything to her name in spite of the years of meritorious service. Anyway, she told me that she is job hunting. Within a few minutes of our chats, I found suitable roles for her. She promised to follow up and she was quite thankful. I'm glad I could help. The second testimony is about a young lady that reached out to me on Tuesday morning. We are working on building her business. The reason I'm testifying is that as I do what I can for these people that seemingly cannot pay, other opportunities are opening up for me. #TTMProfessionals #TestimonyThursday

TESTIMONY THURSDAY 10

Testimony Thursday Sometime last year, @seyicaketools reached out to me to help her grow her businesses. She sells baking items. At the time she reached out to me, she had a group for bakers – Bakers Village. I recommended that we start a Facebook page as well and she agreed. She paid my consultancy fees. I honestly was not satisfied with the results I was getting, though I put in efforts. I believe in getting rewarded for results, not efforts. I kept thinking about her money and how I felt I did not deliver value for the money she paid. Towards the end of 2018, the idea for a Baking Hangout dropped in my spirit. I suggested it to her and she came on board with the idea. We got busy with planning and we advertised the Baking Hangout. The turn out was not much but we were not deterred. We went ahead anyway. We had a canopy outside the shop. As we were about to start the hangout, a man came to ask us what we were doing there. I think he was about to start trouble but the Holy Spirit gave me the idea to turn it to a marketing session. I quickly replied that I was just telling @seyicaketools and @gracecakesnmore how they needed to let people in the neighbourhood know more about the business. @gracecakesnmore was caught up in the Spirit and she began to bring out items to show him and tell him what they were etc. I was inspired to make a video while @gracecakesnmore was explaining and we posted that video on the Bakers Village Facebook page. @seyicaketools boosted the post and enquiries are flowing in. She will pay her "tithes" to @gracecakesnmore and I, right? 😂😂 Follow @seyicaketools, @gracecakesnmore and @ttmfoodstore so you'll know when we start planning for #LagosBakingHangoutVersion2. This is my testimony of the week. #TestimonyThursday

TESTIMONY THURSDAY – PART 1/2 Today's testimony may seem like it's not a big deal but I'll tell you why I consider it a big deal. I FINALLY PAID MY PRACTISING FEES. I got registered to practice as an engineer in Nigeria 4 years ago and it was a big deal for me. I was really excited and while writing reports of my experience in order to be registered, it dawned on me that I had learnt a whole lot. It did something to my professional esteem. In the space of the 4 years, I got really busy and somehow, a few comments here and there eroded my professional and even self esteem. One day, I told my daughter to start calling me Engineer AMA. It was supposed to be a joke but it did something to my psyche. I reminded myself that I was a qualified engineer and Nigeria thinks I'm professional enough to be entrusted with an engineer's seal and stamp. By the end of last year, I decided that to be called an engineer, I had to pay my practising fee. It was supposed to be a walk over. Wrong! I tried to log into the portal to see how much I was owing and pay my practising fees. My log in details did not work. 😯😯😯😯 I checked the register and my name was not on the register. 😯😯😯😯 I had to go back to confirm the certificate I got 4 years ago was not from Oluwole. Reaching them to discuss my issues was another wahala. I sent emails last year and I got no response. I tried the numbers on their website and no one was picking up. 😯😯😯😯😯 Early this year, I decided to go to the Lagos office to lodge a formal complaint. The Taxify that took me to the office suddenly remembered that he didn't have money in his e-tag so we went a longer route and I paid more to get myself to the office. When I got to the Lagos office, I was told that the error had to be fixed by the Abuja office. I was given a number to call. I immediately called the number. It was on a Friday. The person I called was not in the office but he gave me another number to call. I put the call through and the helpful man at the other end of the phone fixed the issue within a few minutes. 😯😯

TESTIMONY THURSDAY – PART 2/2 My name was now back on the register. I had spent the December money I wanted to use to pay the practising fees so I had to wait till March ending when I would get another bulk money. March ending came and I started trying to pay. I kept hitting a brick wall. It took me about 3 weeks to figure out that the reason I was hitting a brick wall was that the account linked to the card I was using was not funded. I usually ensure that the account linked to my card is only funded when I need to do online transactions. So, if you ever get my card details, you'll keep getting an "insufficient funds" message. 😂😂😂😂 For whatever reason, the pay portal was not giving me the "insufficient funds" message and my brain refused to connect till early this week. When I finally realized that the "insufficient funds" was the cause, I tried on the browser I was using for two days and it didn't go. I tried another browser today and it was a smooth sail. That's why I consider this a testimony worth sharing. Since you've read my testimony to this point, let me ask you a few questions: 1. Have you paid your professional body's practising fees? 2. If your answer to #1 is "No", why have you not paid your fees? #TTMProfessionals

This week in Naija Teachers’ Corner, we talk about what teachers do not like about their jobs.

View this post on Instagram

I started a community for teachers late last year. We are growing slowly but surely. If you are a teacher (or you know a teacher) thaf will like to join the community, please send a DM. Yesterday, I asked in the community: "What are the things you don't like about the teaching profession?" Here are a few responses. We'll appreciate tips on how these can be addressed. 1. Maybe it's because of the system of the school where I teach but I get headaches and stressed out as a result of teaching because I teach 5 classes, from Primary 1-5. Time for exam and tests, I still write their questions and mark for all the 5 classes. I don't feel like going back. 2. Parents who want their kids to learn but won't provide the necessary things (Writing and learning materials) for them. 3.Schools, especially private schools, are no longer after morals but money.Teachers are criticized in the presence of students or other teachers. 4.Work load is much yet the salary is nothing to talk about. 5. School owners behaving as if they are doing you a big favour. Please share your thoughts. Let's rub minds. #NaijaTeachersCorner
